Value Chain--"Destroy or be Destroyed"

A *Value Chain* can be defined as set of activities required to design, procure, produce, market, distribute, and service a product or service. It's a sequential set of primary and support activities that an enterprise performs to turn inputs into value-added outputs for its external customers as a part of a corporate strategy.

The "primary activities" include: inbound logistics, production, outbound logistics, sales and marketing, maintenance. The "support activities" include: administrative infrastructure management, human resources management, R&D, and procurement.

The value chain was described and popularized by Michael Porter in his 1985 best-seller: Competitive Advantage: Creating and Sustaining SuperiorPerformance. Its ultimate goal of a value chain is to maximize value creation while minimizing costs. But to the contrary while adding value it adds unnecessary costs.

The new forces of digitalization, globalization and deregulation are destroying value chains of even superior companies. In industries as varied as banking, insurance and utilities, retail, education, competitive advantage is being wiped out as new competitors quickly produce new value chains that use a killer application of digital technology to radically alter the equation. Most often it is a start up or an organization from an entirely different industry that may destroy your value chain. These new entrants have even less of a vested interest in the old model and often can do much more damage much more quickly. Companies focused on competing in the current market often overlook these new players, dismissing them and the technology they employ as insignificant until it's too late to respond strategically.

To respond effectively, organizations must now consider scrapping rather than optimizing their value chains. They are pre-emptively destroying their own value chains. The new saying in the industry is *"Destroy or be destroyed."* These industries are now forming new relationships with customers and competitors by automating expensive processes or giving away proprietary tools others can use to evolve away from the industry entirely.

Let us take the example of *online education*. Online education is an extension of the traditional form of distance education. Typically it involves the use of the Internet to access learning materials; to interact with the content, instructor, and other learners; and to obtain support during the learning process, in order to acquire knowledge, to construct personal meaning, and to grow from the learning experience. The use of technology here has been embedded within a wider strategy for teaching, learning, and service that is responsive to the challenges of technological change. Many adult education and training providers are running to get on the online learning bandwagon because several global groups of institutions are collaborating to promote distance education in a big way. They are busy transforming existing courses and creating new ones for online delivery. The participation of single institutions and groups of institutions has resulted in increased opportunities for online learning all over the world. Institutions are trying new delivery and support strategies, and looking at competency-based credentialing systems and performance-based learning. Why pay for college and attend classes when you can do it in the comfort of your home or office for a much lesser price. Nowadays working people can still make use of online courses and don't need to break away from their job at the same time.

Animated Movies-- They totally rock!!

I've always got mixed reactions from people especially friends of my age group about animated pictures. Some of them love these pictures and some of them find them too childish for their age. As for me I find them really hilarious and very well made!!

And nowadays these movies are so reall... the way they are made... the actions and expressions of the characters, they r just like real movie stars!!

The latest one i enjoyed watching was "Madagascar"... those who hav'nt seen it don't miss it... really good movie... "Ice Age"..... "Toy Story"..... "Finding NEMO" ... the list goes on..

Life

Always leave them laughing when you say goodbye
-Lessing.

Man is a social animal!!!

Is he???????He can’t live his life without interacting wit people. Is this true? Yes, he does need other people to fulfill his basic needs and desires like food, shelter, etc. Other than these needs does he still needs to interact with other people??

There are people who exist who rarely interact with much people in their day to day life. Like some people who just work on their computer for days together and don’t step out of their house. We usually consider these people to be crazy. But they aint crazy, they are people who have total control of their lives, according to me.

Take the example of a writer who locks himself up in some cabin in some mountain side for almost a month. He does so not because he’s a lonely person or afraid of interacting with people. He does so because this is what he loves doing in his life. Does he really feel lonely having no people around hum for a month? No. Does that mean he’s not social? No. He just enjoys his life, in his own special way.

Can we all really live like this writer? I know I can’t!! I can do the same for a day or maybe… just maybe stretch it for a week. But a month? I’d die of isolation.

Is it because I’m abnormal? Or is it that the writer is abnormal? Who am I to judge ? Who are we to judge others?

In one way I think I’m the one who is abnormal. I don’t have enough control in my life to live without other people.

But thinking about it again, why should I live without people around me? Why should I purposely isolate myself from others. Everybody including me loves being around family and friends. Yes I agree we do need time for ourselves too. But otherwise most of the time we want to spend timw with people who we love and love us in return.

And why shouldn’t we want that? Everyone wants to enjoy every moment of his life.

So well don’t really think about any of the stuff I just said, its all crap!!!

Just live life to the fullest and have no regrets cause you live life only once..

MUSIC is as dangerous as narcotics!!!!

Have you ever had the feeling that you just cant get a song out of your head... and its not because you just love that song..but because you just heard it sumwhere and the song just cant leave your head and no matter where you go for the rest of the day u keep humming that song??

Have you ever been able to stop yourself from tapping you feet or maybe stop yourself from swaying your body to your favorite song?

Why do we love certain songs more than others? Is it because it just has a special tune to it? or is it because the reality of the lyrics just slap us in our face!!! The lyrics are so true and are exactly what we are feeling in our life!!

Don't tell me you've never been inspired from music..... don't tell me your favorite song is your favorite not because of the lyrics that have touched your heart or soul at some level!!!

you don't have to know anything about music to like music and that's the beauty of music.....

Music just hits the body and paralyses it letting the soul to take over!!!!!!!!!!

Why we so scared of death!!!

" Everone wants to go to heaven , but noone wants to die "

How ironic...life is so ironic....why do we run from our fears.. Why dont we just face it and realise that there is nothin scary about them !!

Heaven? Hell? Heaven is paradise and hell is torture.... reaaly?

I dont think so... What if heaven turns out to be reaaly boring for me and hell interests me....have u ever thought about that?

They say all "good" people go to heaven..what if i don't wanna be wit good borin people...coz then Heaven will be Hell for me!!!!!

The reason we don't wanna die is the 'knowledge of the unknown'.... Nobody knows what's out there and thus we become complacent with what we have here on earth....

We should explore the unknown and learn!!!!
